It has been some time since I posted “A Few of My Favorite Things”. Like Oprah, I love to share my favorites with you, unlike Oprah I will not be giving away any cars. Sorry.
Food, Food, Glorious Food: My Favorite Cookbooks from 2015
Because of my passion for cooking I frequently receive cookbooks as gifts! And I couldn’t be happier about it! Here are a few of my favorites:
Flourless: a collection of 75 gluten free desserts! Author Nicole Spiridakis has mastered the art of combining wheat free flours so you don’t have to!
Plenty: A favorite gift from my food appreciating friend Catherine! 120 vibrant vegetable recipes from London Chef Yotam Ottolenghi that will make eating your vegetables seem like a treat!
Huckleberry: a collection of 115 recipes from Santa Monica’s famous Huckleberry Bakery and Cafe. Plus stories, secret tips and gluten free alternatives. Look at that berry filled bread!
What Katie Ate on The Weekend: is the most amazing collection of recipes and gorgeous photographs from food blogger Katie Quinn Davis. In this book she features her favorite simple recipes for the weekends, breakfasts and brunches.
Kitchen Tool Favorites:
Tools, useful and pretty and what you need to care for them!
I discovered Wooden and Woven on Instagram and it quickly became a new favorite. Hand carved spoons, kitchen utensils and cheeseboards that have to be seen to be believed! All made by Alex in England. Be sure to check out the gallery, gorgeous photography that is sort of haunting and masculine.
Caring for your wood cutting board and spoons: two words. Boos Block Board Cream! All natural bees wax moisturizer for all types of wood. Ok…I acknowledge that was 14 words.
Favorite Kitchen Decor Tips: How to Decorate Open Shelving
I adore open shelving in a kitchen, or a bathroom, but open shelving can be tricky to decorate for the first timer.
Alice Lane Home, one of my favorite home decor blogs, makes styling open shelves look really simple but they also give great tips on how to do it so you can nail it!
If you are a parent you know that everyday you think about how you could do things better and what you would change if you could go back in time. Parenting isn’t easy business but when all is said and done, it’s often the little things that distract us from the bigger picture.“If I Could Change One Thing” by Treisha at Restoring My Balance touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes.
Words of Wisdom: Inspirational
Our family has had a bit of a rough year. I will share the details later when I have some time and distance to gain a little perspective, but I can already see that these hardships have refined us and softened our edges. While we were in the thick of it and I was having myself quite a little pity party, I came across an article called “Would You Let Your Music Go Unheard” by blogger Dean Lang at Praiseworthy that changed my perspective. We all have to play the hand we are dealt…or the violin with the broken strings, and we can still make beautiful music.
It’s Viral…But Not The Bad Kind: My Favorite Youtube Video
“How to Make a $1500 Sandwich in Only Six Months” takes making a sandwich from scratch to a whole new level. Warning: the creator of this video makes a chicken sandwich and beheads the chicken the old fashioned way.
Party like a Bavarian (not a barbarian) with my favorite Oktoberfest collection from Food 52! Bratwurst, pretzels, brittle and more!
I hope some of my favorite things are now some of your favorite things! ~ Linda Spiker
