California figs are in season from June through September! Although different varieties of fig are available almost all year, fresh California figs are my favorite variety. I love to use them fresh in salads. But there are many ways to incorporate figs into your diet. I love dried figs in yogurt, fig preserves on top of goat cheese, and balsamic vinegar flavored with fig!

Figs are high in potassium, high in fiber, and high in vitamins A, C and D! For most people figs are an awesome addition to a wide variety of recipes! Here are a few of the ways I most enjoy figs!
The Kale Salad with Citrus Vinaigrette: Chopped kale, fresh and pickled grapes, figs, apples and currants when in season make this healthy salad a favorite at our house!
Greek Yogurt with Seasonal Fruit: such a simple and elegant recipe! I first ate this in NYC and then came home to make my own!
Sometimes just a hint of fig is all you need to send a recipe over the top! This salad: Greens with Warm Breaded Goat Cheese and Fig Balsamic is a perfect example.
But if you want more than a hint of fig try these to cheesy, fig combinations: The Fig and Brie Grilled Cheese…
And last but not least my favorite No Fuss Cheese Platter with Fig Preserves on Goat Cheese! Unbelievable combination!
Enjoying fruits and veggies while in season is a great way to get the most nutrients in your food as well as save money! Produce is always cheaper while in season. Eat up friends and come back in a few days for hand dipped ice cream cones!~ Linda Spiker
