Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (preferably grass fed and 80/20 lean/fat ratio
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons good quality maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 slices sharp or medium cheddar cheese
  • your favorite BBQ Sauce

Toppings:

  • lettuce, tomato slices, red onions, avocado
  • 3 buns, my favorite are Brioche.

Instructions

Clean and spray grill. Preheat grill to 400 degrees

  1. Use a knife to divide one pound ground beef into three equal portions. Take each portion, form into a ball, place on a plate and smash flat using your palm. You want the burgers about 3/4 inch thick.

  2. In a small bowl, whisk together maple syrup and all seasonings. Brush onto both side or burgers.

  3. When grill is ready, place burgers on grill, close lid, cook each side for 3-4 minutes for medium. Move burgers to upper level of grill, add cheese and close lid for 60 seconds to melt cheese

  4. While burgers cook, prepare lettuce, tomato and onion slices.

  5. Remove burgers from grill. Place lettuce on the bottom half of bun, add burger. Pour BBQ sauce on top of burger, add toppings. Serve!
