As I mentioned in the first installment of “Diary of a Reluctant Juicer Part 1” originally I was not a fan of juicing and blending… to say the least. I have done a 180 since the beginning of my journey. I now really love to juice and blend vegetables and fruits and have begun to be a bit more adventurous in my endeavors! In this installment we add, bell peppers, probiotics, nut butter and spices into the mix!

The Mango Mash Up:
The Beautiful smoothie above is called “The Mango Mash Up”. Our base is almond milk (<—my homemade recipe>

You will notice a really good yogurt is going to be tart… a tiny bit sour, this is a good thing! If you don’t do dairy, you can use your favorite non dairy yogurt.
I add a little almond butter for protein and healthy fats. We spice it up with some cinnamon and vanilla paste. Cinnamon is a natural anti-inflammatory and tastes great in a smoothie! The vanilla paste is available here. Unlike extract, it doesn’t have that strong alcohol flavor and lends a pure vanilla taste to our smoothie.

The Recipe: The Mango Mash Up

You will need a high powered blender for this recipe. I love my Blendtec. If a new Blendtec is out of your price range you may wish to but a recertified Blentec! I have one and love it. See the Factory Re-certified Blendtec Total Blender Classic Series.![]()
It even looks pretty before it’s blended!
The “Orange Ginger Blast” is my own version of a juicing recipe from “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead”. The original version was too heavy on the ginger for me so I cut it back and added the juice of one orange. Ginger is also a natural anti-inflammatory food and aids digestion, bell peppers are full of anti oxidants and fenneladds flavor as well as nutrients. A good quality juicer is a must! I love my Breville!

The Recipe: The Orange Ginger Blast

- 6 carrots
- 2 pears or green apples
- 1 orange bell pepper top cut off
- 1 fennel bulb greens cut off
- 1 orange peeled
- 1 inch ginger
-
Run all ingredients through a juicer...(not a blender:) Serves 2

Thanks, Linda — it’s nice to have a few new ideas to get started. The poached fish and chicken I’m allowed to eat have already gotten old around here — there may be a mutiny afoot …
I hope it gets easier! And I hope these recipes work for you:)
